Experiment Leaders: Jane and Moujhuri

Our first visit of the school year was a success with students at Marcy Open School! Students learned about different forms of energy, such as renewable and non-renewable energy and kinetic and potential energy. They also learned about parallel and series circuits to complete the experiments for the day.  Mentors led students in creating a battery-powered only by potatoes and/or lemons! The purpose of the battery was to power one or more colorful LEDs. In order to do this, a series or parallel circuit had to be constructed using wires and the produce. As always, the students impressed us with their curiosity and hands-on skills. Some groups were even able to light three LEDs at once!
